I had a few minor snafus with the Black Pelican initially. But in the end the food was great and the service impeccable. I was very specific with my menu and every detail was correct including the fresh shaved horseradish. Would I choose to use the Black Pelican again?...absolutely.
My cake was fine. I have three reasons behind the three star rating. One Great Cakes is very big on layer flavoring, key lime, raspberry etc..I asked for a layer not fruity and not on the menu, white or dark choclate chip, and they were absolutely not willing to do it at any cost. Secondly my cake was beautiful, however they felt the need to sprinkle iridescent glitter on the top and around the base of the cake. I did not ask for this and I am sure she thought she was being helpful, however glitter is not to my taste. And the last reason, I ordered a red velvet groom's cake when we cut into it it was chocolate. I did not complain because what do you do at this point.
The cake itself was fine. It was moist and tasted like a wedding cake. Nothing amazing, thus the three star rating.
Fiddler Dave and another member of Molasses Creek, a local band from Ocracoke, played the music for our ceremony. They were great I recommend them highly.
Daniel and Kate Pullen were amazing. They are local to Hatteras Island, professional and my wedding pictures are beautiful. Thank You!!!
DJ Hambone did an amazing job. It was very hard to find a good DJ in the Outer Banks. One DJ we interviewed told us that he does not do requests, even our requests and plays what he thinks will keep the party going including the macarena. My husband are not a macarena couple and we kept looking. Finally we stumbled across Hampton. He was professional, low key no banners or ad's on his tables. He had music from Bebel Gilberto to The Pixies to Hank Williams, and he was very nice. Another plus was he did not charge a travel fee to come down to Buxton. I plan on hiring him again for beach parties over the summer.
