I contacted Elaine Hauer because I heard that she was a florist. She informed me that she was also a decorator and coordinator. She did a beautiful job with the flowers and decorations at my wedding. However, her coordinating skills were horrible. I had my wedding and reception at the same location. I've never attended a wedding and reception in the same place so I was unsure of how the set up would work. I came up with a time line of how I thought things might possibly flow. I had Elaine to review it to let me know if anything on the time line looked odd or out of place. She told me that nothing really stood out and everything looked fine except she would let the MC know not to start the reception until 15 minutes after the ceremony. I wanted everything to be right so I told her that was fine. She had a copy of this list with her at the wedding and she did not inform the MC to start the reception 15 minutes after the ceremony as previously mentioned. During the ceremony, I forgot to light the unity candles based on the order of service on my program. Elaine did not remind me or prompt me to do so. I remembered to do it when the ceremony was over and made sure I had some pictures taken of that moment. On my timeline, I stated that my slideshow should start once the reception begins and it should play throughout the reception. This did not take place until I remembered later in the night that my slideshow should be playing. My husband setup his laptop and made the slideshow play. I wanted to have a smooth transition from the wedding to reception, but Elaine completely lost control of the reception during this time. While my husband and I were taking pictures after the wedding, there were guests in the lobby area stopping to talk to us which was very distracting. Elaine left my bridal party in the lobby area while my husband and I took pictures outside and she did not instruct them on what they were supposed to do. The groomsmen left and went to the bar and the bridesmaids waited around to be announced (as I had planned). Elaine offered to fix them a plate and told them they could go ahead and eat. When it was time for the bridal party to be announced, Elaine said that she would not worry about doing it since the bridal party already went out to mingle with guests. She did not tell me that she gave them the okay to go in the reception area prior to being announced. I was under the impression that my bridal party left on their own so my husband and I were the only two that were announced. I was very disappointed that my bridal party was not announced or acknowledged. When it was time for the wedding toast, Elaine had my bridal party to stand in front of everyone with the plastic cups that they had in their hands. Everyone had something different to drink in their cup. I asked Elaine about the toasting flutes and champagne. Then she went to get the toasting flutes and poured champagne in everyone’s glass. Elaine should have directed the events of the day and made sure everyone was doing their job. She should have also taken care of any emergencies that took place. She definitely did not do her job as a coordinator.
