La Salsa De Hoy

We badly wanted to pull off a salsa routine with everyone watching, and thanks to our great lessons at Salsa de Hoy, we pulled it off. This is not a traditional wedding dance instructional place; in fact, the teacher of our group class flaked on two private tutorials we set up in the weeks before our wedding even though we were going to pay him. Thankfully, that unprofessionalism didn't matter too much since we'd been taught so well in our actual classes. If you want to learn to dance salsa, this is the place

Kathy's Gift & Flowers

This was a suggestion from our caterer and it didn't go that well. Kathy picked beautiful flowers but she nickle and dimed us throughout the process, constantly talking about money, asking for money up front, etc. Felt like she had burned by clients before, which is too bad but shouldn't have been our problem. Also, the runner she laid out was cheap and cheesy. At least the flowers were really nice.

Salsa Caterers

Delicious food! As one of us is Latin and we both love Puerto Rican cuisine, we wanted that type of food at our wedding and Salsa Caterers nailed it! Hot, delicious, plentiful. They handled the bar, too, which didn't go as well because they ran out of tonic early on and were a little disorganized at the bar in general. But the food was amazing and the staff was great so we couldn't complain much about the bar. Strongly recommend checking out their food, especially if you want a Latin vibe at your wedding

Prospect Park

A beautiful setting! Right in Prospect Park. Really nice space inside as well. Clean, well-lit. Negatives are that you have to book well in advance (we got married in June, admittedly a busy time, and had to book 15 months ahead to make it happen). Also, not enough bathrooms and strict rules on what caterer you can use. But again, the actual space was spectacular.

Debra Rothenberg Photography

Not a traditional wedding photographer, but Debra does shoot weddings and she did a really nice job. Shot color and black and white and was easy to work with. Reasonably priced too. Only slight critique would be the pics were a little on the boring side.

Cupcake Cafe (9th Ave)

The best cake we could ever imagine! Not exactly a wedding cake place, so sometimes the customer service lacked a bit, but again, the cakes they make are so delicious that any hassles were well worth it.

We used Dianne as our planner (making sure the day went smoothly) and Rob as our DJ, and they both did a wonderful job. They came recommended from friends who loved using them and they were great about coming to meet with us at our apartment and at our venue in the weeks leading up to the big day. We had a pretty specific music list and Rob did a great job executing it. We passed on their names to some other friends getting married last spring and Rob did a great job at that wedding as well. Friendly and helpful; not much more you could ask for.
