A Classic Case

2009-07-01 09:49:14

The first vendor we booked for our wedding was the band. We heard A Classic Case at the Yellow Fin Restaurant in Edgewater and called them hoping they would play at our wedding. They did and they were great! Our guests are still raving about them!

We wanted music that people would enjoy listening to whether they felt like dancing or not and we found the perfect band in A Classic Case. The band members were fun, the music they played was great – Beach Boys, Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons and the Blue Brothers Soundtrack – and we danced the night away. A Classic Case is not your usual wedding band without any of the usual “cheese” or corny-ness, just a great band that happens to be playing at your fantastic party.

It had rained the morning of the wedding and unfortunately water later fell on the band’s equipment, causing damage. They would have been well within their rights to pack everything up and take off. Instead, they repaired as much as they could, as quickly as they could and continued to play the rest of the evening.

My husband and I continually discuss how awesome the band was and how we feel like they were a major contributor in making our day as fun and memorable as it was. I highly recommend A Classic Case.

Flower Follies

I'm not sure this quick review will express how nice it was to work with Cynthia at Flower Follies. I wasn't a bride with a ton of ideas about flowers, or what would or wouldn't work. I pretty much left everything in her hands and was completely satisfied. My order wasn’t huge, but she made me feel like her most important client.

When I first met Cynthia she asked me a few questions about what I wanted, how formal the wedding would be, what the wedding colors were and where it would be held. All I could tell her was "no roses" because it was informal and "yellow." She had great ideas for a fun, bright wedding.

My initial order was two bouquets (for me and my matron of honor), 6 boutonnières, 7 corsages and flowers for the cake. Over the course of planning, I changed the flowers in the boutonnières and corsages, asked for changes that would reduce the price of the bridal bouquet and added an entrance way centerpiece and 6 cocktail table centerpieces. My total order was relatively small and my changes were many and some last minute and Cynthia was able to not just deal with all I was giving her, but happy to help and continued to give me great ideas and advice. I would email her and say things like, “wow, the bridal bouquet is very expensive” and she was able to come up with some new ideas that worked beautifully and within my budget. Over the course of planning Cynthia was quick to respond via email or phone so when the wedding day arrived seeing her felt like seeing a friend. The flowers were beautiful, the entrance way centerpiece was everything she said it would be and set the tone for the day. I am so glad I worked with Flower Follies on my wedding day.

Working with Cynthia was more like working with a friend than a vendor and I highly recommend Flower Follies.

Ken's Creative Kitchen

2009-07-01 09:49:14

Literally everyone we spoke to, our florist, our baker, our venue, our photographer, our ceremony musicians, our band, everyone – highly recommended Ken’s Creative Kitchen. Now we do too! Our wedding wouldn’t have been the same without Jamie, Helen and the team at Ken’s Creative Kitchen. They made our day perfect.

My husband is big into food and the moment I saw and then tasted the food of Ken’s Creative Kitchen, I knew he’d found our caterer. The food was unbelievable, the service was incredible and we credit the beauty and ease of the day to these folks.

We held our ceremony and reception at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, a location that Ken’s had used before, which made things easier for us. They knew what worked and what didn’t, how to get guests moving in the right direction and how to serve all of our guests, even with a lot of special requests, with ease. We served a double entrée of filet mignon and crab cakes to our mid-western and east-coast guests. Everyone was happy! We had numerous guests with dietary concerns and everyone’s needs were met. We wanted to serve our grandmother a certain drink – not a problem. I needed someone to help us walk down the dock with my long train – Donna was there. Everything from making sure my husband and I were never thirsty to packing up our leftover cake was done beyond expectations. Ken’s Creative Kitchen chose the timing of the day, location of the tables, the placement of the decorations and centerpieces, put out the favors and seating chart, and more. I had no pressure on me and knew that my day was in their extremely capable hands. We also had some strange requests – 190 lemons for the centerpieces, someone to assemble and arrange 4 cocktail tables, 16 pillows and 130 boxes of lemonheads. Ken’s took care of it all. They even packed up the leftover food for my husband and me to take home.

I cannot say enough positive things about Ken’s Creative Kitchen. Jamie and I communicated via email for months before the wedding, Helen was the event coordinator for our wedding day and everyone on staff that day was fantastic. They thought of things that I didn’t even realize I needed to think about. My husband and I are still in awe of how smoothly the day went. People are still raving about the food and service.

I wouldn’t hesitate to use Ken’s Creative Kitchen. We highly recommend their services.

Larson Photography

Not many people can say that they loved their wedding photos. Not many can say they loved their photographer. My husband and I can. Jim Larson was our wedding photographer and we loved him; we can’t say enough positive things about him. Jim was able to capture the day beautifully. He captured moments and things I didn’t even realize I wanted. His ability to make people completely comfortable while asking them to pose for pictures was incredible. His humor and ability to see the big picture while keeping an eye on the next step allowed us to have pictures that reflect the feel of day and match our memories. Working with Jim was fun!

Larson Photography was the most reasonably priced photographer we found. His price included our engagement photos, a DVD of all the photos, 300 proof prints and a website where we and all of our guests could view and download the photos. The best part is that we own the rights to the photos, allowing us the share them with everyone who cared to view them. Five days after our wedding the photos were online to view. Eleven days after our wedding we had the DVD and proofs in our hands. I’ve never heard of anyone getting their pictures as quickly. Rather than be annoyed that we opted to make our own album, Jim made recommendations for good websites and services.

Jim arrived early and stayed until the very end. He was calm, laid back and easy to work with. He helped make sure the day flowed so we would be able to get all the pictures we wanted. He was open to suggestions about shots we wanted and groups of people to include. It was great. He was everywhere! During the honeymoon I mentioned that I wished I had asked for a picture of the room before the guests arrived, it was there. I wished I had asked for pictures of the band, they were there too. I have nothing negative to say about our photos or our photographer. I am so happy we found Larson Photography. I highly and gladly recommend his services.

Rabbi On The Go

2009-07-01 09:49:14

My husband and I are two different faiths (Christian and Jewish) and Rabbi Block was able to give us a fantastic ceremony that incorporated both faiths without alienating any of our guests. We were thrilled.

Due to some crazy timing before the wedding, my (now) husband and I were still working on the ceremony on the Wednesday before our Sunday ceremony. Rabbi Block was calm and helpful, giving us guidance, but allowing us to work out the pieces of the ceremony ourselves. This was a little stressful for my husband, but I found the freedom, well freeing. He reminded us that the ceremony was what we wanted it to be and not to ask permission for certain readings, but to feel confident in our choices. This was wonderful. We initially sent Rabbi Block a ceremony that was too short and he gave us a bunch of suggestions and ideas. We ended up with something that reflected both of our faiths and our views on marriage.

On the day of the wedding Rabbi Block arrived early and was very helpful and calming. He read the ceremony as we had written it, but also added in some lightness that made the ceremony and the day better. We told him we wanted something somewhat informal and fun and he had us all laughing. His calm presence and demeanor allowed us to take in the moment without worrying about an officiant who would make the ceremony about them or push any agenda. Due to the wind, our chuppa had a mind of its own. Rabbi Block worked with my brother-in-law to have the chuppa brought in during the ceremony, rather than have it free standing and it was beautiful.

People were approaching us after the ceremony saying how they loved Rabbi Block, how lovely the ceremony was and that it really reflected our personalities. Exactly what we wanted. Rabbi Block made it happen. I would highly recommend him and his services.

Fiona's Cakes

We used Fiona’s Cakes for both the wedding cake and groom’s cake. The cakes were awesome. People were calling me days later to tell me how good the cake was at the wedding. Fiona came highly recommended by our florist, caterer and site manager. They were right. She was the best and very easy to work with.

The groom’s cake was chocolate cake with chocolate filling and chocolate icing. The wedding cake was vanilla cake with lemon filling and white buttercream icing. It was so good! I am counting down the days to our first anniversary so I have a good excuse to get more cake! Fiona was a pleasure to work with. We weren’t sure what kind of cake design we wanted, but Fiona had plenty of ideas to help us choose something that would work within our price range and size requirements. We ended up choosing a ribbon to match our centerpieces and had our florist design the cake topper. Fiona was able to incorporate both the ribbon and the flowers and we were very pleased. Two days before the wedding I wanted to change the decoration on the groom’s cake – after having sent a previous design. Fiona was able to change the order and we were thrilled with the outcome and very happy with Fiona’s flexibility.

I would not hesitate to use Fiona’s Cakes for another function and I highly recommend Fiona’s Cakes.
