The Kau Kau

2008-12-27 20:43:10

My husband is 1/2 Japanese so to also infuse our wedding reception with at least a taste of the Asian culture. My husband enjoys Japanese food, but he is crazy about the Kau Kau in Seattle. So instead of having pulled pork, we went with a full Kau Kau pig...let me tell you...this pork is to die for. It just about melts in your mouth. I think it was probably the first thing to be picked clean off the buffet line! For a small fee they came and set it up. When I say set it up I mean that they take this pig and reassemble it to look like the traditional whole hog...OMG, incredible. They also have the best duck that I believe I have ever tasted...check them out, especially if you are having an asian or asian themed wedding.

I made all my center pieces and Michaels had all my ribbon, and also my stamps that I used on our invitations. One of my favorite stores.

Seattle Firefighters Pipe and Drums

In addition to my southern roots I also have Irish and Scottish roots as well, and have loved bagpipe music since a child. My now husband is extremely hard to buy for and I wanted to surprise him with something special. Last Christmas season I discovered that he too had a love for the bagpipes so a plan began. After a little research I discovered the Seattle Firefighters Pipe and Drum Band, incredible! You can hire anywhere from a lone piper to the entire band. I hired 1 piper and 1 drummer and it was just right for our indoor reception. Our guest were thrilled and quite impressed with the talent of these two fine gentlemen. Plus it gave us an opportunity to thank them for their service and to remember all those that were lost on 9/11. I look forward to hiring them again!

Big hit at the reception by both adults and children. They were very pleasant to work with.

I got an incredible deal on all our center piece vases and battery operated candles, glass rock and river rock for

our center pieces. It also helped that by going on to the Glade web site that I was able to get $5 off coupons for each of the candles. I could only print 2 on my computer but with the help of my friends we got more than enough to cover all that we needed.

The reason Merry Beth Turpin is the #1 wedding planner in the Seattle area is because she IS the best. We learned so much from Merry Beth and recommend her to anyone planning a wedding. Unfortunately we had to postpone our wedding and when we rescheduled Merry Beth was unavailable...sigh.

Unfortunately due to a family situation, our original DJ had to bow out...much to our disappointment. Unfortunately the DJ that we went with was even more disappointing, even though he came across as being a great find. Not only was he not the MC we had asked for, and believed he would be, he came dressed as if he were going to the grocery store, and he didn't play the music requested during the dinner hour(classical) nor the special musical numbers that were requested, except for Mark's and my first dance and his dance with his mom. He is a pleasant enough man but I would never, ever use him again or recommend his services to anyone!

For 5 days we enjoyed the comforts of a beautiful suite with his and hers bathrooms and everything we could possibly want at our fingertips. I can't wait to go back!
