We chose to go with John Marshall Catering (wonderful experience). We had 180 people at our wedding reception. John Marshall was able to provide us with all of the dinnerware, glasses, plates, cups, flutes, linens, etc. more cost-effectively than any of the packages Virginia offered. We chose to buy the chair covers and sashes ourselves online at efavormart.com as it was cheaper to buy them than rent them if you can believe that. We turned around and sold them so we made out. Virginia only gives you two hours the day of your event to set up. We felt that on our wedding day this was un-needed stress and so chose to ‘buy’ ..yes..buy extra time to set up. We paid an extra $50 to have an extra hour of setup time. The contract with Greystone Fields for an event is only for 5 hours. We decided to buy an extra hour for hundreds of dollars more….really…as if we weren’t paying enough thousands of dollars for the facility. It was in all…a lot of money. John Marshall worked with us to have the menu we wanted and he was wonderful. He took care of so much… no matter how many changes we made. He is very personal and professional as well as is his staff. His prices are very cost-effective, and his food is out of this world!! John was there to help with set up and took care of quite a few of the ‘little things’ that were not part of his job description. Everyone at the event loved his food and still tells us about it today.
We used Jean-Marc Chatellier’s French Bakery in Millvale for our outstanding cake. We chose fresh strawberries and butter cream. Jean-Marc makes each cake himself and delivers and sets it up as well. It was absolutely delicious!! Our guests also commented that it was the best cake they ever had. We decided to go with Jean-Marc because he is personal and professional. He takes pride in his cakes and his costs were about the same as other well-known Pittsburgh bakeries who mass-produce wedding cakes. We loved his personal touch in matching our wedding colors and designing the cake as we wanted it. He also serves the entire cake. He gave us a certificate to get a free ‘top tier’ freshly made of our cake when we have our first-year-anniversary. His theory…”why should you eat year-old cake?” We love his theory!!
