It has been 6 months since my April wedding and the one thing that still gets me till this day is that I never properly voiced my dissatisfaction with our wedding cake.

We met with Kay because of her wonderful reputation on wedding boards and Yelp. We met with her at Harris’ restaurant in SF and were treated to a wonderful sampling of cakes. We both loved the strawberry Italian cream cake filled with strawberry mousse and strawberry jam. The sample we tried was this buttery, luscious, pink cake with a delicate strawberry mousse and lovely pink jam.

Imagine our surprise during our cake cutting when we sliced into our cake and we cut into a very ordinary yellow cake that was dry and crumbly. We sent pictures to Kay and she told us that she stopped using stop putting pink food color in it, so it was a natural pale pink from the strawberries rather than bright pink. Regardless of whether or not she decided to use pink food coloring or not, she should have let us know before she made the cake. More importantly, the “strawberry” cake did not taste like strawberry and the cake was not even a natural pale pink, it was yellow.

The cake was not the cake that we selected and signed the contract for. On all outward appearances the cake looked fine. Sadly, we did not cut into the rich, creamy, pink cake we have envisioned

We even had stretched our wedding cake budget to have one of her cakes.

Kay was great to work with. The cake had the look we wanted, and she was able to work with us on the flavor we wanted.
