They were reasonably priced and had a lot of pre-wedding assistance available. Lots of music choices, plus the typical "if we don't have that song, we'll get it for you" guarantee. Our problem arose with the DJ himself during the reception. A nice guy, but he decided to ignore our requests to "mix up" the music a bit. Instead, he insisted on playing music "through the decades" starting with the 1960's - playing ALL oldies - and then moving on to the 1970's, then 80's, etc. I (the groom), and my new wife, and my best man all told the DJ to play a more varied mix - oldies, new stuff, dance, slow songs, all jumbled together because people were getting tired of the oldies. He was very defensive. Finally after 3 times telling him to change the music, he finally mixed it up a bit. He rushed us with the flower toss and garter song, too - didn't tell us before they were going to happen (even though he had an assistant who could have covertly come over and whispered it to us), etc. It was quite upsetting for my wife and me. I give him 2 stars because yes, he finally did change the music and then things picked up. It felt like pulling teeth to get him to do it, though. Avoid "Craig" as your DJ at Sounds Abound. His assistant was actually great - and the only one who listened to us - and changed the music at my request, then the DJ finally went along with it. My wife's comment the next day: "Our wedding was wonderful, the only thing I didn't like was that DJ." There's your answer if you're considering this place.
We worked with Danny and he was awesome! Sounds Abound lets you identify a "do not play" list and none of the songs we put on there were played. He was not too cheesy and he did a great job of gauging the mood on the dance floor and playing songs that kept people dancing. He never played a song that cleared everyone off! Our friends were dancing until the very end of our reception thanks to Danny at Sounds Abound. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a DJ in the western suburbs of Chicago!
