I did cupcakes on a cupcake tree with a regular cake on the top for my cake topper. Publix in Citrus Park has a wedding area to order and they helped me customize exactly what I wanted. I had 100 people at my wedding and my cupcake/cake served 108. It was done in my colors, delivered and setup 2 hours before my wedding and reception. The whole thing only cost me $173. It was perfect and delicious.
We searched for a simple inexpensive cake. Publix was the best choice we could have made. We had more than enough cake and it was resonably priced. They did a fantastic job of decorating the cake and making it exactly how I'd imagined. They also delivered it to our reception venue for us so that was one less thing we had to pick up!
Publix did a wonderful job on our wedding cake at a very resonable price. I wanted a fairly simple designed cake, and I gave them a picture of what I wanted. They did an amazing job decorating it and it tasted delicious! I also thought that the delivery cost was reasonable as well, especially since they figure per th milage and there are Publix stores all throughout the city. I would highly recommend using Publix!
Publix always has good cakes, and the one at the intersection of Barrett Parkway and Bells Ferry was right-on. We had three layers- vanilla, marble, and chocolate, and all were delicious. The wedding cake lady (Carmen) was nice, and the cake turned out exactly as I had specified (purple!). It looked beautiful, tasted fabulous, and it was far less expensive than any other bakery we tried. The only downside is that this is not the place to go for towering, fancy, avant-garde cakes, but it IS the place for traditional (or traditional-but-another-color, like mine) style cakes.
I ordered both my wedding cake and grooms cake from Ron. The grooms cake was awesome! It was a Phillies hat and a Cheesesteak (my husband is from Philadelphia). It was also absolutely delicious (marble cake with peanut butter filling). Only problem we had was that when we went to pick it up, we found that they had moved the store! It wasn't far, but with lights and traffic it cost us about 20 minutes. Since it was right before the rehearsal dinner and I was tight on time, it was a little stressful for me. The cake being great made me forget about that though.
As for the actual wedding cake, I drew out a cake for him to make. It was fun and unique and didn't look like a traditional wedding cake. Ron made an interpretation of the drawing rather than basing the cake on the drawing. It looked like a traditional wedding cake for the most part. It did have some of the features... Light blue, palm tree on top (was supposed to have a beachy scene on top), gum paste seashells. Don't get me wrong, it was an absolutely beautiful cake. It just wasn't the cake I drew or even close to it. He also didn't ask me any questions after our initial meeting, which I thought was odd. I thought it just meant that he had it all set, but now I wish he had asked some questions. All in all, the cakes are beautiful and every flavor I've had has been delicious. I'm not a fruit in cake person, but the raspberry filling was to die for!
We wanted a cost effective vendor for our wedding cake so we instantly thought of Publix. I have purchased items from the Publix bakery several times and have always been more than satisfied with the cost and taste. We decided to schedule a cake tasting with the new Publix Greenwise Market. We asked for specific cake flavors including a flavor they did not have on their menu. They accommodated our request and matched the flavor perfectly. We also requested an elaborate cake design and despite being a relatively new bakery, they did a phenomenal job. My guests still rave about our beautiful cake and I truly believe Publix did just as well, if not better, than a high-end bakery.
The cake was delicious! It looked great and was exactly what we had asked for. They called us once with a minor issue, and we were able to resolve it quickly over the phone. Good selection of cake, frosting, and fillings. Very comparable pricing. It was so good, I'm actually craving our wedding cake, more than 6 weeks after we're married!!
Oh, the bakery. What was supposed to be a fun cake tasting, turned into a disaster in a hurry. First, it is hard to work with these people from a distance if you want anything other than the options listed on their website. They do not provide an email where you can send a picture, but instead ask you to fax it in. Apparently their fax machine is less than optimal, and the resulting photo of the cake I had in mind did not come out well. I had previously spoken with bakery manager, Brenda, who was very helpful over the phone. I was told that they would happily pick up the chocolates made by the Chocolate Forrest for the cake, so it would save me the cost of shipping. Upon arriving, the cake decorater, Lynn, had no idea what I was talking about--This is TWO days before our wedding. It took a long while to finally get this settled, but eventually they agreed to pick up, for a fee (probably could have shipped for the same amount). Relieved, I was eager to get to the cake tasting...when she asked me what flavors I was interested in tasting, I repeated the same information I had relayed to numerous people at the bakery about the flavors we wanted in our cake. I was told they were out of Lemon and would not be able to get it by the time of the wedding. Seriously? Don't you think it would have been a good idea to tell me this? Isn't Publix a CHAIN store? It didn't even cross this woman's mind that she could call across the street to another location? ...after I had told them repeatedly I wanted lemon flavor in my cake. We ended up paying around $300 for a cake that fed only 75 people - and they did somehow manage to find lemon filling. Do not try to save money by going to a Publix. Extra money is worth some amount of professionalism that this particular Publix was seriously lacking. I was practically crying when we left the store (just the straw that broke the camel's back, I know this ultimately was not that big a deal). The cake did turn out beautiful in the end and tasted very good, it just wasn't worth the stress to get there.
