Second Creek Farm Bed & Breakfast proved to be the ideal location for our wedding. When we decided to get married, we knew right away we wanted to be near the Missouri River -- where we first met -- and that our wedding had to be in Missouri, where we'd spent the most of our years to date together. We also both love nature, hiking, the outdoors and wanted a ceremony and venue to reflect those interests that would also be a fitting setting for our early 1900's / rustic / nature-themed vintage wedding.

Second Creek Farm B&B, with its rustic 1860's log-cabin style that makes one feel as though transported to a Colorado pioneer homestead, met the criteria for all of the above. The owners were so down-to-earth and friendly -- but at the same time, true professionals who knew exactly how to manage hosting and catering a wedding. The rustic exterior of the place was matched by a rustic elegance inside: beautiful themed rooms, two with jacuzzi tubs, fireplaces, richly decorated in wood and antique decor, and a beautiful, warm ambiance that would be both cozy and captivating for our late-Edwardian-era wedding style.

The b&b owners did all the food as well -- which was delicious -- and offered different options to fit different budgets. While we weren't allowed to bring outside food, save for the wedding cake, Pat, one of the owners, ended up being flexible about that and allowed my mother to bring chocolates and bon-bons for the dessert table -- and the food itself was delicious. We opted for a buffet style, and Pat and Jack were great about helping us move things along, guiding us as to when it might be good start having people line up for the meal; and generally, working so efficiently and deftly in the background.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay -- though the wedding was such a whirlwind of busy-ness and activity that we didn't have a whole lot of time to ourselves to relax. The proximity of the b&b to both my husband's family farm (just 7 miles away) and to nearby Owensville, Mo (8 miles) helped us as far as logistics, since we are currently living in Iowa.

Even after the owners experienced a life-altering tragedy just two months before our wedding, with the untimely death of their adult daughter, we never would have known from their demeanors because of their professionalism and commitment to follow through for their customers. We said we'd understand if they wanted to postpone our wedding date, but they wouldn't hear of it -- and were alert, friendly and efficient on our wedding weekend as any other time we'd met with them.

While the rustic, woodland setting might not be right for some people who prefer a more urban setting, for those who enjoy nature, quietude and are looking for a perfect setting for a vintage, rustic, mountain, or rural-themed wedding, you should definitely consider Second Creek Farm B&B. They offer amenities that we decided not to include, such as a horse-drawn carriage ride down to the alter. They also have a hobby farm on site, including a herd of goats, miniature donkeys, horses and other critters that make the setting great for a farm wedding as well. We'll definitely be going back to stay there soon!
