True to Toasted Head’s slightly irreverent personality – a wine label with a fire-breathing bear? – our winery is off the beaten path, making it an essential destination for adventurous wine lovers. When we established Toasted Head in 1995, we decided it was more important to invest in vineyards and barrels than a Napa Valley-style monument, so we raised several simple barn-like buildings that blend elegantly into our rustic Dunnigan Hills landscape of wheat fields and grapevines. It’s a beautiful oasis with plenty of space for our collection of over 20,000 oak barrels, whose ‘toasted heads’ give our wines, especially Chardonnay, their mellow toastiness. One smaller building on the property is dedicated to a spacious, modern tasting room, which is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Surrounded by picturesque vineyards and views of the majestic Coastal and Sierra mountain ranges, it’s the perfect setting in which to experience the deliciously mellow flavors of Toasted Head lineup.
