Laurie is a really sweet person and was fun to spend time with. But to be honest, I wouldn't say she's a professional hair dresser. She's fine to do simple hair styles and is super-convenient if you are having your wedding or event at the Round Barn or in Waitsfield. But I can't say I'd recommend her for bridal hair & makeup services.
I got married at the Round Barn Inn & Farm and they really push their "preferred vendors" - I'd say for the most part, it may be better to make your own choices. I basically chose Laurie because she was convenient and nice. I'd asked a few times if we could do a trial, and at first she said it was too far away from the wedding; two days before the wedding when we were meeting she mentioned she didn't really do a full trial b/c it never came out the same anyway (?). Also, I was never told beforehand that the trial would cost anything. We did a sort of trial, but she basically just played with my hair and put a few curls in. Nothing bridal looking and no real consulting.
The day of, she did a good job with my bridesmaid's hair- all very simple up-dos or pin-backs. For me, she started blowing it out totally flat, and then wasn't able to really create the look of long soft cascading curls for me. I was going for a fairly simple half-up look with long loose curls, and it just didn't come out looking like anything I couldn't have done on my own. It was all just a little disappointing, especially b/c the week before I'd gotten my hair trimmed in Boston, and the girl who did my hair there was a total pro and curled it sooo beautifully. Again, this is probably the issue with being in rural Vermont, and I wouldn't have changed my wedding setting for anything- even perfect hair. But, it may be worth it to make the trip Burlington if you are having a special event in this area.
