We selected The Cake and the Caterer because the venue where we were having our reception was locked into an exclusive agreement with them. Our consultations with them went smoothly...they were easy to work with as we changed our minds on the menu and tried to come down a little bit on costs. From our initial meeting, they assured us we would have plenty of food. Overall, the quality of the food was pretty good, but their management of the event was poor. The day after the wedding, we were notified by several guests that a few tables did not receive salads and one of our entrees, as well as a side dish, ran out before an entire table was served. When my mother called the Monday after the wedding to inform them of this, their excuse was, "two of the flower girls ate hearty portions"....so apparently that accounts for 12 people?! I even overshot our number of guests when I gave them our headcount to ensure we would have plenty of food. In a second phone call my mother made to them regarding the salads, we were then notified that one of the bowls of salad tipped over in the van on the way to the venue so they tried to make the one salad bowl stretch to accommodate 140 guests. I'm not quite sure why they didn't just send someone to the grocery store to buy some bag salad when the salad initially tipped over! Since my husband and I have returned from our honeymoon, we have tried contacting them twice and they have yet to return our phone calls. Nina was their only staff member present that I can say did a wonderful job. But their catering manager, who we had been in contact with throughout our planning process, showed up to our wedding in worn-out jeans and a pink t-shirt with sunglasses on her head…this is how she looked as she dismissed each table to the buffet line; not very professional. I guess that might be suitable at a causal picnic wedding, but we were having a more formal reception. At least the rest of the catering staff had on black pants and a white shirt. The cake was delicious, and what food people got to eat was pretty good, but the manner in which they handled the shortage has been quite disappointing. An apology would have been nice, but all they seem to have are excuses. And a month later, we still have not received a phone call.
